What We Believe

At St Mary’s we want to bring glory to God in everything we do. To help us do that we have three aims:

We want to reach out with the good news about Jesus Christ. We want as many people in Wheatley and elsewhere in Doncaster to hear about Jesus and the eternal life he offers.
We want to build each other up with the good news about Jesus Christ. We want to follow Jesus’ example of treating the Bible as the word of God. We want to hear God speak to us through the Bible, and to speak his truth to each other in love, encouraging each other to live for him.

We want to send out believers equipped with the good news about Jesus Christ. Since we live by the Spirit, we want to keep in step with the Spirit. We want to live and speak for God at home, at work, and in our friendships. We want to send out and support gospel workers in our city and elsewhere in our world.

Jesus said, “I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind [and] love your neighbour as yourself.”

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.”

(Matthew 9:6, 22:37-39 and 28:18-19, NIV)

St Mary’s is an evangelical church, and is part of the Church of England. We believe salvation is by Scripture alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, to the glory of God alone.

We are glad supporters of the Church of England Evangelical Council, and of its group in our diocese. We’re pleased to be part of the ReNew network. St Mary’s church council has passed a resolution under the House of Bishops’ Declaration on the Ministry of Bishops and Priests because we believe men and women have equal and different roles in the family and church family, and we’re glad to receive the ministry of the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

We are pleased to host Bible Training Yorkshire, a one-day-a-week course

providing high quality, Bible-dependent training for the whole of Yorkshire. The course is a partnership between the Yorkshire Gospel Partnership and Christ Church Fulwood.
